Grab a cup of tea,
and read.

I found this story after being forced to commit to Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/iamnotfashionn). I thought for a long time that Twitter should only be a place on the web for the stars. I also do not like being so dependent on these social medias that I thought staying away from Twitter will keep me a little more independent from social media. Then, Com 210 (converged media writing) comes along. The teacher insists that we all get a twitter to keep up with the news. Twitter is like our definition to fast fashion. But, in this case it's fast news. Twitter will know the news before CNN, NYtimes, local news, etc will have the news story to write about it. Twitter has became a resource that we all need to depend on for fast news.

On the hour-and-a-half subway this tweet comes up by ghettofashionista on my twitter feed. I figure I have so much time to kill. So I might as well read the article. (I also really hope you all do too.).

The subject of the story explains it all: Are bloggers loosing their credibility. The question is: Are we? Why is my blog as important to your blog as to important to (lets say) Style Scrapbook. The blogging world is so big now! It's huge! Not only do we have blogger, but even tumblr! Ever hear about tumblr famous?! They are also consider as bloggers for just posting/reposting pictures! So why are the tumblr famous blogs more important to lets say blogger? What would you consider a real blog with real content? The reason why bloggers are losing their credibility is because there are so many mediums to consider yourself a blogger! We are becoming that one person in a universe of trillions. So what is one part of your blog that is going to stick out as a huge gold platform shoe to the other platform shoes?

The article makes you think. Makes you think of the reasonings why you started your blog, and the reason why you chosen that medium (such as you could of chosen tumblr, Wordpress, Livejournal, etc).

A lot of us start a blog to get noticed in the fashion world. I, for instance am a fashion major. I study the fashion industry and follow trends. Blogging is a trend. Blogging is also a market where we market our image and the brands to advertise. It was not around twenty years ago, and fashion news/trends did not get around as fast as it did. Instead of just going to style.com to look at runway news, I could just look at Twitter or how about I WANNA GO TO FASHION WEEK's blog. If I wanted to look up trends I could study dirtylittlestylewhoree's tumblr page. For knowing street styles around the country we can go to The Sartorialist or Facehunter. How about beauty style ideas: the beauty deparment's blog. The point is: there are so many sources out now to study every aspect of this fashion industry. So the big problem is what is your blog going to do to interest me into following it? Or interest the hundreds of people you wish for to follow it?

Daily Beast journalist Isabel Wilkinson wrote, "One thing is clear: as Gypsy Rose Lee would say, you gotta getta gimmick. You can't just be a plain old fashion blogger who posts pictures from the runways. Now, it's about choosing a theme. There was Penny Chic, which styles outfits with clothes from Walmart; there was the Ghetto Fashionista, which 'keeps a pulse on the runway and the hood', and the Idiosyncratic Fashionista, for 'women of a certain age'."

I AM NOT FASHION has not found a gimmick yet, other than my vibrant red hair that you will never forget about. What is your gimmick? And if you can not think of one we all need to hit the ground running trying to find one.

Before I conclude this, I want you all to know that the reason why I blog is to keep myself fresh and updated with the fashion world. I believe fashion is so much wider than what is on style.com, WWD.com or in fashion magazines. That is mainstream media that we all should know for the trends but that is not the WORLD of fashion. I enjoy reading each and one of all your blogs to learn what I can not learn in the mainstream. I also believe that we create some of the trends, and we inspire the designers.  As I read that article it has opened my eyes to what bloggers are becoming unnoticeable, but in one way I do not care that is what we have became. Because, I love to blog. It's my own journal that talks back to me, and a resource that textbooks can't live up to. It's a wonderful thing to be apart of the blogging world.

Fantastic post!
I believe to a certain extent that blogging is losing its credibility, especially when it comes to Tumblr, I spent nearly 3 years trying to make a "proper fashion blog" on tumblr, with large text posts etc but no one has wanted to see that, it has a "pictures only" nature....I believe it is silly to call a 13-year-old tumblr famous girl a "real blogger" because they are only posting pretty pictures...it isn't that hard. I'm not too sure what I'm trying to say here, but what is considered a "proper blog" has been blurred and is hard to define nowadays.

Personally, I find a blog that delivers interesting content, educates me about things I didn't know before and has a blend of personal posts (such as what they did today or outfit posts) and reviews and fashion news (reviews of collections and products etc) are the best sort of blogs.

I have to agree with you about tumblr. I don't want to offend tumblr bloggers. But, it's hard to work your ass off finding things for blog entries, trying to get your name/blog out there & researching all night for the best put-together entries. You do all this work to only go on tumblr and see followers drool over a tumblr that JUST repost pictures. I don't get it! But, nowadays tumblr has became a medium of blogging and it's possible that one of those tumblr's are participating at Fashion Week.

I agree. I do too like a mixture of everything thrown in a blog. It's great when you can go to a blog and all your fashion, beauty and their own creativity is thrown into a blog.

I have been using Tumblr for years and I feel it was definitely a waste of time trying to post reviews etc because everyone skips over text. I find very very few good substantial tumblrs like The Style Student is a good tumblog.

I also think that the image around Tumblr is very juvenile and you only get followers if you are a skinny, model look-alike with long long hair and wear short shorts....sad but true :|

Oh, tumblr. I thought I was alone on the thoughts on tumblr. Blogger is so much harder to get followers than tumblr is. Tumblr is super easy to get followers same with Twitter. I suppose those two serve good purposes to get your blog out there. Yay for advertising hahah. I believe look book is in the same category with skinny, model look-alike. Thats another place thats hard to break through. Oh wells. We got each other and our awesome blogs so thats all that matters :D!

Tumblr is good for some things though. There are some tumblogs that even serve as really informational blogs and make it in the blogging community as well. It's just the very few out of thousands.

It has taken me a long time to convert to blogger...I had a blogger in 2008/2009 however I never stuck to it, I never liked the layout...but now I appreciate it so much more. I know a lot of people say "followers don't matter, it's about posting what you love" but I think getting followers gives you the confidence and motivation to put 110% effort into your blog, everyone wants people to love and read their blog haha.

UGH, I don't even bother with look book! I don't have a good camera and I'm hardly a supermodel! hahaha.

It was very hard to convert to blogger! I seriously started like 5 blogs until I stuck with this one! Followers do not matter in one sense, but that's like saying I am going to make a clothing line for the love of it who cares if it sells! We blog for a reason, and for a point. Followers do matter. It does give you the motivation. The reason why my other bloggers failed, because I felt like I was writing for nothing! Why should I put the effort if nobody likes me!? haha. So in the end, followers do matter. We are all popular sell outs haha.

Eh, who wants to look like a supermodel anyway!? Boring!!
